"Joe Wilkins has a big, true, highway-running American voice. When you see a new book of his, you should celebrate. Just buy it, put down the window, and let the music blow back your hair. It's nothing but alive." – Luis Alberto Urrea
I just learned that my essays “Out West,” originally published in Orion, and “You, All of You,” originally published in the Sun, both earned special mention in Pushcart Prize XXXIV: Best of the Small Presses.
Congratulations. I remember reading You, All of You in The Sun – I was riding the train up into the mountains, and you blind-sided me with your description of casting a line: “so long and true and lovely…”. My father was a fly-fisherman, and I’ve been trying to write that line for 20 years. Thanks.
